The Trout Inn (Or The Trout) is a historic pub (and hotel) built in the 17th century in Lower Wolvercote, north of Oxford, close to the city center. Godstow ,Set on the banks of the River Thames, The Trout offers a quiet moment during a busy day, especially if the sun is shining.
The Pub has a beautiful side terrace overlooking the River where you can enjoy a special English Beer or taste the exquisite gastronomic developed by the chef of the house and enjoy the movement of the waters and trouts inside the River and a wooden walkway that offers the charm of the place. Generally in the gardens we can also find the Krug, a beautiful peacock that is always in the Pub.
The Trout Inn is family friendly and dog friendly, meaning that the whole family can enjoy a refreshing break by the river on a sunny day.
The pub features in Evelyn Waugh’s novel Brideshead Revisited and in several episodes of the Morse Inspector. The Place also served as inspiration for Philip Pullman’s book La Belle Sauvage and also appears in the 2001 film “The Saint”.
My Visit to The Trout
My visit to The Trout was in August, so it was a hot, sunny day until almost 9pm. This day was a great surprise, I did not know exactly where I was going, when I left the house where I was living with my friends Geoff and Jack. They said we were going somewhere different. On the way I went to observe the beautiful houses that exist in the region. As soon as we arrived at the Pub, we stopped the car in the parking and did an approximately 1 hour walk in the area. We visited the lock and the ruins of the Godstow Monastery.
After the tour we stopped at the Pub to refresh and have a beer, on occasion, I tried a beer I had never heard before, the Brakspear Bitt, an amber beer that has a crystalline malt and a bitter, slightly salty taste.
