For those who want to visit Windsor Castle and the Eton Colleges this is the closest train station to Windsor Castle. It was once a large train station, but a part of it was converted into Shooping Center.
The Windsor Station was inaugurated on October 8, 1849, after considerable opposition from the leadership of Eton College, who was convinced that the approach of a railroad would lead the Eton boys to turn aside.
The Central station was used extensively in Carry On Loving, one of the Carry On films. The film was released in 1970, when much of the original season was still intact. In the opening sequence, the station was also used in the film ‘Much-Snogging-On-The-Green’ with Terry Scott’s character.
